Cruzeiro das Seis Pontes is a product, not a company

If you search the phrase in Portuguese you get a dozen pages that look like official sites for one brand. They are not. Cruzeiro das Seis Pontes (also written cruzeiro das 6 pontes) is the ordinary Portuguese name for the short Douro sightseeing loop that passes under Ponte da Arrábida, Ponte Luís I, Ponte do Infante, Ponte Maria Pia, Ponte de São João and Ponte do Freixo. Every licensed operator on the river uses the name for its own version.

That matters at the moment of payment. The kiosk on the quay, the site you booked on and the company that owns the boat are frequently three different businesses. Nobody is doing anything wrong, but you cannot assume that a good review of one boat applies to the ticket you just bought.

Who uses the name

• Cruzeiros no Douro, run by the travel agency Douro Criativo (licence RNAVT 7667), boards at the Rota do Douro quay on Avenida Diogo Leite in Gaia and lists €18 on weekdays, €20 at weekends from June to September, per its site (September 2026).
• Portodouro Viagens e Turismo Unip. Lda (licence RNAVT 4528/2014) sells the same cruise at dourocruzeiros.com for €18 from Gaia and €20 from Ribeira, per its site (September 2026).
• Douro Acima, Rota do Douro and Douro Azul each run a bridges cruise under closely related names from the same two banks.

Resellers add another layer. Civitatis lists a “Six Bridges Cruise” from €20 with a meeting point at the Ribeira dock and does not name the boat operator anywhere on the page, according to that listing (September 2026). Living Tours and Yellow Experiences, the Porto sightseeing bus company, sell the same loop under their own branding.

What you get, and what it costs at each quay

The route is set by the river, so the product barely varies. Boats leave the quay, run downstream to Ponte da Arrábida, turn, come back upstream past Ribeira and the Gaia lodges to Ponte do Freixo, turn again and return. Fifty minutes, no stop, no disembarkation.

The €2 gap between the banks is real and consistent. Cruzeiros Douro publishes both prices side by side for the identical cruise, which is the clearest confirmation that the Gaia saving is a pricing decision rather than a different product.

Timetables

Cruzeiros Douro lists departures every 30 minutes from 10:00 to 18:00 between April and September, and 10:00 to 16:00 from October to March. Cruzeiros no Douro lists 10:00 to 18:00 in summer and a later 11:00 start from October to March, per their sites (September 2026). Portodouro's page shows a narrower 10:30 to 17:00 window.

What reviews of the six bridges cruise actually tell you

Review scores for this product are pooled across companies, which is exactly the problem. Civitatis shows 8.2 out of 10 from 15,459 reviews on its unnamed-operator listing, checked in September 2026. That number describes the route, not any boat you might board.

Where reviews are attached to a named company the picture is more mixed. Tomaz do Douro holds 3.5 out of 5 from 381 Tripadvisor reviews and Cruzeiros Douro 3.5 out of 5 from 194, both checked in September 2026. Neither score is dragged down by the 50-minute cruise itself; the low ratings cluster on the long day trips those companies also sell.

Recurring themes

• Consistent satisfaction with the route and the price. Almost nobody complains that 50 minutes for €18 was poor value.
• Repeated frustration with recorded commentary that is inaudible on a full boat, particularly in mid-afternoon.
• Complaints about being sold one departure time and boarded on another, which follows directly from the reseller structure described above.
• Steady criticism of the boarding pontoons for anyone with limited mobility. Civitatis states outright that the cruise is not suitable for people with reduced mobility.
• Praise for the Gaia kiosks being calmer than the Ribeira crush in July and August.

Booking a six bridges cruise without buying the wrong thing

Buying at the quay works well from November to March and before 11:00 for most of the year. From June to September the late-afternoon departures fill, and the queue at Ribeira is worse than the queue at Gaia because there are fewer kiosks on the Porto bank.

Check these four things on the voucher

1. The operating company's legal name and licence number. Portuguese operators carry an RNAAT or RNAVT number and print it.
2. The exact quay, not just “Porto” or “Gaia”. Avenida Diogo Leite is roughly a kilometre long and the piers are not next to each other.
3. Whether the time on the voucher is a booking or a guarantee. Cruzeiros Douro states plainly that its online reservations do not carry a departure time and that you confirm at the dock on arrival.
4. The cancellation window. Cruzeiros no Douro offers free cancellation up to 72 hours ahead; the Civitatis listing gives 24 hours. These are not equivalent.

Checked in practice

• Kiosk staff on both banks work on commission and will sell you the next boat leaving, whichever company owns it. That is fine, but ask before paying if the brand matters to you.
• Signs reading “6 pontes” with no company name are usually agents. Signs with a licence number are usually the operator.
• Cross Ponte Luís I on the lower deck to reach the Gaia kiosks: five minutes, flat, and typically €2 cheaper for the same loop.
• Board early and sit at the stern. The bow is loud and wet west of Ponte da Arrábida on windy afternoons.
• Confirm at the pontoon which bridge the boat turns at. A few Gaia departures only come within sight of Ponte do Freixo rather than passing under it.
