Klook review: what it is like for booking a Porto boat trip
Klook is a Hong Kong booking platform for tours, attraction tickets and transport passes, founded in 2014 and strongest with travellers from Asia. It sells a small number of Porto river trips. This page explains how its vouchers, refunds and rewards work, and where it sits against the platforms with deeper Douro stock.

Who Klook are
Klook is an online travel platform headquartered in Hong Kong. Its Wikipedia entry, checked in September 2026, records a founding date of September 2014 and names Ethan Lin and Eric Gnock Fah as the founders. The catalogue covers tours, attraction tickets, public transport, car rental and accommodation, a wider spread than most European activity sites attempt.
The same entry lists a 2018 round of around US$200 million that pushed the valuation past a billion dollars, a further US$210 million in December 2023, and a US listing filing on 10 November 2025. Klook's own about page publishes no numbers, only a copyright line running 2014 to 2026.
Where the weight sits
The centre of gravity is Asia. Klook runs separate country storefronts, visible in its own URLs (en-HK, en-SG, en-MY, en-PH, en-AU, en-GB among them), and its help centre carries standing categories for trains, buses, flights and hotels. European activity platforms rarely bother with rail ticketing. That explains what the platform was built for, and why the Porto boat list is short.
How booking, vouchers and refunds work
The voucher flow
Klook is a voucher platform, not a ticket office. Its FAQ states that once a booking is confirmed you get a confirmation email with the voucher, and the same voucher sits in your account under Bookings in the app. It can be printed or shown on screen, so a phone is enough at a Porto quay.
- Book and pay; the platform confirms and issues the voucher.
- Open the app, go to Account then Bookings, and find the voucher.
- Check whether it is fixed-date or open-dated across a window.
- Show the QR code at the meeting point named on the voucher.
The fixed-date versus open-dated distinction matters. An open-dated voucher for a river cruise still leaves you queueing for a seat on a busy afternoon, because the operator controls how many people board each sailing.
Cancellation windows
There is no single Klook cancellation window. Its help pages describe three shapes: free cancellation up to a stated deadline, conditional cancellation with a fee after a cut-off, and bookings that carry no refund. The deadline is set per activity by the supplier and shown on the product page, so read it before paying.
The refund pages add two rules that catch people out. No refund is given once an activity has been completed, and promo codes applied to a booking are not returned when you cancel, unless the code came from a Value Pack whose terms allow it. Klook says it will consider a refund for unforeseeable events such as a cancelled flight if you supply proof.
Payment, currency and refund speed
Klook states that the payment methods on offer depend on the currency you select, your location, the booking total and the product, so the checkout you see in Portugal will not match Singapore's. Refunds go back to the original payment method, and Klook's FAQ puts the wait at 3 to 14 days, slower than most European platforms advertise.
The app and KlookCash
Klook is app-first in a way its European rivals are not. The rewards scheme, KlookCash, pays a percentage of completed bookings back as credit and adds small amounts for reviews. The FAQ sets redemption at 100 KlookCash to one US dollar and requires a balance of at least 10 before you can spend it. Useful if you travel in Asia often; not a reason to book a fifty minute boat trip here.

Klook lists a 24-hour live chat on desktop activity pages, a chat thread opened from inside a booking, an Ask Klook enquiry form, and email at support@klook.com. There is no Portugal phone line. For a same-day problem at Cais da Ribeira, chat is the realistic channel.

Klook's Porto boat catalogue is narrow. Listings visible in September 2026 include a River Douro Six Bridges cruise from Porto, described as a rabelo boat trip of a little over 50 minutes past Ribeira and Vila Nova de Gaia, and the same cruise bundled with a hop-on hop-off Yellow Bus ticket. Beyond those, the Porto page leans on wine cellars and tuk tuk tours.

For context, the same September 2026 check on Musement's Porto page showed 155 experiences with five Douro boat options. If you want to compare a six bridges cruise against a sunset cruise, a private charter or a full-day Douro valley sailing, Klook cannot give you the spread.
What travellers report
No rating or review count is quoted here, because Klook's Porto pages could not be verified by automated checking in September 2026. What can be described is the shape of the questions Klook itself answers most often.
- Refund timing. Klook pre-empts the wait with a stated 3 to 14 day window, the sort of line written after many people ask.
- Promo code loss on cancellation. It has a dedicated FAQ entry, so it clearly surprises people.
- Voucher redemption at the venue. Separate articles cover collecting tickets and boarding with a voucher.
- Conditional cancellation. A whole page explains the phrase, which suggests the label is not clear at checkout.
Reviews also feed the rewards scheme: Klook pays KlookCash for the first ten reviews written each month, and more for longer reviews with photos. Worth knowing when you read star ratings on any Klook listing, because a small financial incentive sits behind some of them.

Read that table as policy, not outcome. All five pass the operator's real cancellation deadline straight through. The columns that separate them for a Porto boat are the last two: how fast money comes back, and how much choice you get.
Practical checks before you board
- Read the meeting point on the voucher, not the activity title. Porto cruises leave from Cais da Ribeira and from Cais de Gaia, a bridge apart.
- Screenshot the voucher. Signal on the quay at Ribeira is unreliable when several boats load at once.
- Check the commentary language on the listing. Most Douro boats run recorded audio, not a live guide.
- Arrive 20 minutes early in summer. Voucher holders queue with everyone else and seating is first come.
- Note the operator name. If wind cancels a sailing the operator decides, and Klook chat will ask for that name.
