Musement review: booking a Porto boat trip through TUI's platform
Musement is a Milan booking platform for museums, attractions and tours, launched in 2013 and owned by the TUI group since 2018. It carries a modest but real set of Douro river cruises from Porto. This page covers its vouchers, cancellation terms, payment handling and where its Porto list runs short.

Who Musement are
Musement is an online travel agency for tickets and experiences, launched in Milan in 2013. Its terms and conditions, checked September 2026, name the contracting company as Musement S.p.A. of via Polesine 13, Milan, VAT number 07978000961, holding online travel agency licence number 170695 issued by the Regione Lombardia. That level of registration detail is more than several rival platforms publish.
TUI Group announced the acquisition on 14 September 2018. The TUI press release put Musement at around 35,000 products across 1,100 cities, 130 employees and a million users at that point, and did not disclose a price. TUI itself reported €23.2 billion revenue for 2024.
What that ownership means for you
Two practical consequences. The platform's roots are in museums and cultural venues, so skip-the-line entry is its natural product and boats are secondary. And a group parent means a real legal entity, a VAT number and published phone lines, which matters when a booking goes wrong.
How booking, vouchers and refunds work
Vouchers and who you are contracting with
Musement's terms state that it sells vouchers for redeeming tickets, or tickets issued directly by museums, cultural institutions, theatres and tour operators. The same document says Musement acts as agent or reseller of the supplier and disclaims liability for the supplier's own service. In plain terms, Musement takes your money and issues the paperwork; the boat is run and cancelled by the Porto operator named on your voucher.
Confirmation is described as instant on most products, and listings advertise skip-the-line access where the venue supports it. For a river cruise that means a booked seat, not a separate boarding lane.
Cancellation windows
Musement's about page advertises free cancellation up to 24 hours beforehand on thousands of experiences. The terms are more careful: the window is set by each supplier, products advertised as non-refundable cannot be cancelled at all, and charges follow the supplier's own no-show policy. No reimbursement is granted for failing to turn up on time.
- Find the cancellation policy on the experience page, below the Location and Provider blocks, before paying.
- To cancel, open My Booking and choose cancel booking.
- Musement displays the applicable policy at that point.
- Confirm a second time to actually cancel.
Payment and currency
The terms list credit cards, Stripe and PayPal among the accepted methods, and say card details are transmitted by encrypted protocol to a processor such as Adyen BV without Musement retaining them. Prices are calculated in the currency you select from those available and always include VAT, which is a genuinely useful line: the number on the Porto listing is the number you pay.
Support and languages
Musement publishes support@musement.com plus two phone numbers in its terms, a UK line on +44 20 3467 9700 and a US line on +1 833 932 4692, alongside live chat. Published support hours run 08:00 to 22:00 CET, which covers a Porto sunset sailing in winter but not a summer one. The site offers nine languages including European and Brazilian Portuguese.

Check live availability for Porto river cruisesWhat Musement actually lists for Porto boats
Musement's Porto page showed 155 experiences in total when checked in September 2026, with five distinct Douro boat products among them. That is deeper than Klook and shallower than the biggest platforms, and the mix leans towards wine and private hire rather than the standard sightseeing loop.
| Product | From | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Essence of Douro with 50-minute river cruise | €40 | Solar-powered boat |
| Private Douro boat cruise with wine tasting | €45 | Small private option |
| Douro sunset party cruise with DJ and open wine bar | €70 | Sunset slot, bar included |
| Private boat cruise with wine and open bar | €250 | Whole-boat hire |
| Private sunset boat cruise with wine and open bar | €480 | Whole-boat hire, sunset slot |
The gap is the classic product. No dedicated six bridges cruise appeared on the Porto landing page, even though the page copy describes passing under six bridges. For that fifty minute loop you will find far more departure times elsewhere.
The private options are the interesting half. Two whole-boat listings at €250 and €480 make Musement usable for a small group weighing a private charter against a shared sunset cruise. Full-day Douro valley sailings and wine cruise combinations with a cellar visit were not among the Porto listings.
What travellers report
No rating or review count is quoted here. Musement aggregates supplier products and its Porto boat listings are the same underlying sailings sold elsewhere, so a platform-level star average would tell you nothing about the boat you actually board. What can be described is where the friction sits, judged from what the company itself writes help articles about.
- Finding the cancellation policy. Musement documents exactly where it sits on the page, which suggests people miss it.
- The two-step cancel confirmation. It has its own help article, so the first click surprises people.
- Discounts excluded from refunds. Stated in the terms rather than at checkout, and a common source of disputes.
- Modifying rather than cancelling. Changes are handled differently and have a separate article.
The published phone numbers matter more than they look. Most activity platforms route everything through chat and forms. Being able to call a UK number about a Porto boat on the morning of the sailing is a real advantage over an email queue.
Musement against the other booking platforms
| Platform | Typical cancellation window | Languages | Support channels | Refund handling | Strongest at |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| GetYourGuide | Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start on most activities | Large multi-language site including Portuguese | 24/7 customer service | Back to the original payment method | Depth of Porto and Douro stock, live availability |
| Civitatis | Usually 24 h before the start; some products 48 h | Spanish-first, plus English, French, Italian, Portuguese | Contactable every day of the year | Back to the original payment method | Spanish and Portuguese language guided tours |
| Viator | Standard policy: full refund at 24 h or more; 100% penalty inside 24 h; some products final sale | Broad language coverage via Tripadvisor | Help centre and ticketed support | Per policy type on the product | Cross-checking a boat against Tripadvisor reviews |
| Klook | Set per activity: free, conditional or non-refundable | Many Asian and English storefronts; no Portuguese site found | 24-hour live chat, in-booking chat, enquiry form, email | Original payment method, stated 3 to 14 days | App-led booking, transport passes, KlookCash rewards |
| Musement | Free cancellation up to 24 h beforehand on thousands of experiences | Nine site languages including Portuguese | Email, live chat and phone, 08:00 to 22:00 CET | Per supplier policy; discounts excluded from the refund | Museum and attraction tickets, TUI backing |
Musement's distinguishing features are the published phone lines and the Portuguese site, both useful in Porto. Its weaknesses are the 22:00 CET support cut-off, awkward for a summer sunset sailing, and the refund rule that strips promotional value. On raw choice it sits in the middle of the five.
Practical checks before you board
- Read the provider name on the voucher. Musement acts as agent, so the operator decides if wind cancels the sailing.
- Confirm the quay. Cais da Ribeira and Cais de Gaia sit on opposite banks, about ten minutes apart over the Ponte Luís I lower deck.
- Cancel before 22:00 CET the night before, so a human is available if the button fails.
- On the private listings, ask what the price covers. Whole-boat hire usually carries a passenger cap that is not in the title.
- Check the audio language. Douro sightseeing boats mostly run recorded commentary, not a live guide.
Our verdict
What works
- Published phone lines and a named legal entity with a travel agency licence
- Portuguese-language site, both European and Brazilian
- Prices always include VAT in the currency you select
- Genuine private charter options at two price points for the Douro
- TUI ownership gives a real escalation route behind the platform
What to watch
- No dedicated Six Bridges cruise found on its Porto page
- Support stops at 22:00 CET, awkward for summer sunset sailings
- Refunds exclude the value of any discount or promotion used
- No full-day Douro valley cruises to Régua or Pinhão listed
- Cancellation windows are supplier-set, so the advertised 24 hours is not universal
Questions travellers ask
Is this the official Musement website?
No. porto.boats is an independent guide to Porto boat trips and has no commercial relationship with Musement or TUI. For bookings, changes and refunds you need musement.com or its help centre. This page explains how the platform works so you can judge whether to use it.
Is Musement reliable for booking in Porto?
It is a registered Italian travel agency, Musement S.p.A. of Milan, holding licence 170695 from the Regione Lombardia and owned by TUI Group since 2018. It publishes phone numbers as well as chat. The caveat is scope rather than trust: it lists five Douro boat products, not the full market.
What is Musement's cancellation policy?
Musement advertises free cancellation up to 24 hours beforehand on thousands of experiences, but the actual window is set by each supplier and shown on the experience page below the Location and Provider blocks. Products marked non-refundable cannot be cancelled, and no refund is given for arriving late or not turning up.
How do I cancel a Musement booking?
Open My Booking, choose cancel booking, read the policy that appears, then confirm a second time. The first click only shows you the terms. Any discount or promotion applied to the original booking is not included in the refund.
Does Musement have Douro river cruises?
Yes, five were listed on its Porto page in September 2026: a 50-minute solar-boat cruise from €40, a private cruise with wine tasting from €45, a sunset party cruise with DJ and open bar from €70, and two whole-boat private hires from €250 and €480. A dedicated Six Bridges cruise was not among them.
How much does Musement charge on top of the price?
Nothing visible at checkout. Musement states that prices are calculated in the currency you select and always include VAT, so the listing price is what you pay. Its commission sits inside the price the supplier agrees, as with every platform of this type.
Is Musement worth it for a Porto boat trip?
It is worth checking if you want a Portuguese-language booking, a phone number to call, or one of its two private Douro charters. For the standard fifty minute six bridges loop it is the wrong shop, because that product was not on its Porto page at all.
